Ecotierra – AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT
ECOTIERRA’s Shade Coffee and Cocoa Reforestation Project (SCCRP) is a large scale reforestation initiative with strong socio-economic and environmental benefits. This Peruvian – based project spans from Ecuador to Bolivia, on the eastern side of the Andes.
It involves more than 15,000 small producers grouped within 32 cooperatives. All share a common vision of creating a sustainable economy by utilizing carbon offsets as a financial tool to reforest degraded land.
INNOVATING, AUDITED AND VALIDATED
After nearly four years spent developing the structure of the project, the operating and monitoring tools, the Shade Coffee and Cacao Reforestation Project (SCCRP) was validated by ECOCERT under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) banner in early 2014. While similar projects do exist, the SCCRP is the first Project to be validated worldwide that encompass different types of agroforestry systems on a nationwide scale.
A FLEXIBLE STRUCTURE
Developed as a grouped project, the SCCRP structure offers maximum flexibility for both participants and investors. The project allows for the inclusion of additional parcels from small producers (under certain conditions) as the projects expands. The project also allows investors and social & environmental funds to concentrate their investment in specific geographic area and determine the level of their financial implication.
The project will not only bring quantifiable benefits to the environment and local communities, they will also bring a return on investments for the investors.
The following project is based on the idea of an alliance between different partners where 12,000 hectares would be developed within the structure of the SCCRP.
